ABOUT
my story
The diet culture has effected the way I lived my life to a point where I hated myself. I started to think that there had to be another way to approach eating healthy, while still enjoying the food that I love. In my opinion, eating should not consume our lives or effect the way we feel to such an extend that we feel that we have failed ourselves. I think that there are many people who still struggle to find a maintainable way of eating. That is why I would like to share my experiences and recipes to hopefully inspire and promote an eating approach that suits your lifestyle and allows you to reach your goals.
I believe in eating in a way that you can maintain for the rest of your life and that you should eat realistically and effortlessly. This means not constantly restricting yourself, but also informing yourself on what is good for your body. I always went on yo-yo diets and seasons in my life where it was all or nothing although I grew up in a fairly healthy household. My mother and grandmother always made nutritious, home cooked meals. My mother believes in leading by example and that’s why I always went back to trying to eat healthy after my unhealthy binges. As I grew up I realised that I love eating and I don’t want to restrict myself because I am going to eat that chocolate or doughnut eventually and I can’t feel bad at it and hate myself every time.
Balance and consistency is key. I am aware that not everybody grows up in a healthy household or understand that diets are not necessary, but I would love for people to realise that's it's okay to eat their favourite sweet or savoury treats without feeling bad about it. And most importantly, to not think you failed yourself. It is easier said than done, believe me, I know.
But start small. If you get in more nutritious foods, even starting with one meal a day, that is a big step towards living healthier. Even just making your own food makes you more mindful of what you are eating and what goes into your body.
Healthy eating doesn’t mean eating food that you hate or eating or not eating at specific times. It doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to write down everything that goes into your mouth or count every single calorie you consume. For me it means enjoying what you love in moderation or even just tweaking the recipe just a bit and putting what you love, first. It means putting in MORE OF YOU into your diet.
